God's Waiting Room

Psalm 27:14 "Wait on the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."

As a Nurse I have been in my fair share of waiting rooms. There is the waiting room at the doctor's office where we sit and wait to be seen. There is the waiting room at the hospital where we wait to hear the news of a loved one. There is the waiting room we are taken to - to sit and wait for the doctor to come in and go over the test results....but I'd like to talk to you today about another waiting room....God's waiting room.

Out of all the waiting rooms I've ever been in - this one is by far the most difficult. Yet this is the waiting room where I have learned the most. We as human beings don't like to wait and I am no exception. Especially when I'm waiting on God. I've noticed that when I'm in a hurry - God isn't. Despite all my efforts to implore the importance of a quick answer - He is not on my clock or persuaded by my schedule.

As I am writing this I know there are some of you who are in God's waiting room right now. Waiting on that job, or waiting to be healed, waiting for strength, waiting for the phone to ring....whatever it is you're waiting on consider this:

While you're working on your projects, goals, your dreams, your vision, God is working on you...and God is much more interested in you then what you're trying to accomplish. It's not that He doesn't care about what you are trying to do, but His greater goal - is to build His Kingdom and by doing so building your character. You're not taking your accomplishments to heaven but you are taking your character.

While you're working on your projects, goals, your dreams, your vision, God is working on you...and God is much more interested in you then what you're trying to accomplish.

There are times God says I intend to give you what I promised, I intend to answer that prayer or fulfill that vision...but you're not ready yet. I want to grow you - and when you're ready - then it's going to happen. A lot of times we think we're waiting on God but God says, you're not waiting on me, I'm waiting on you! He's growing us up because the blessing may be to much for you to handle - you're not ready for it yet. Remember though, His delay is not a denial. There's a big difference between a "no" and a "not yet."

Something to keep in mind....when you're in God's waiting room you will have all kinds of negative emotions. You start worrying and become stressful, you get anxious, irritable - it's what I often like to refer to as spiritual ADD. Don't get envious or jealous when you look at others and think, "Hey- they got the promotion!" or "Hey - she started a new business and it's taking off!" "What about me, God?" The negative emotions come rolling in and we become frustrated and at times we have a pity party for ourselves, don't we...but here's the thing...when you are in God's waiting room...be patient. Seek Him. In all that you do. Everyday...and remember His promises to you. Hold on my friend, He is working it out.

Isaiah 40:31 says - But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength! They shall mount up with wings like Eagles! They shall run and not grow weary! They shall walk and not faint!

I promise you - it will be worth the wait.
